Tour Overview

At 5199m Africa’s second highest mountain, with gleaming and eroded snow-capped peaks. Three peaks, Mbatian, Nelion and point Lenana.

Day to Day Tour Plan

Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki – Old Moses

You will be picked from your respective place at 07:00hrs, then we proceed to Nanyuki Town which takes like 2-3 hours. On arrival we have a cup of coffee as we finalize with the crews and purchase of food. There after we proceed to the Sirimon Gate, this normally takes not more than 1 hour, on arrival at the gate we will have lunch as we formalize the entry process and payments of the fees as required  by the Park Authority. After the process and lunch the trekking starts right from the gate and we will walk through the rain forest for 9 km (3-4 hrs walk)to the first mountain hut-Old Moses (3300)for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Old Moses – Shipton Camp

Wake up call at 0630hrs and you will be served with the breakfast as well as hot coffee and tea depending with your preference, after the breakfast prepare yourself and re-arrange the bag as we ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley,  in this beautiful little valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks. {3990m}. Climb out of the Nortn Valley and into the Mackinders Valley one of the broadest valleys on the Mountain, with many giant groundsels with good views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch along the valley on top of the cliff. After lunch we will have like 3 hours to ascend to Shipton Camp just bellow the main peak of Batian and Nelion this normally takes 7-8hrs to get to the Shipton Camp. On arrival you will find your cup of hot coffee or tea is ready as our crews always goes ahead to make sure the services are provided always on time. After refreshments you can either have a short walk for acclimatizing and then descend to the Camp as you wait for the dinner to be served. Dinner and overnight in Shipton Camp 4200m. The weather at this camp sometimes may go bellow 10 degrees depending with the climate.

Day 3: Shipton Hut – Pt Lenana – Old Moses

Wake up call at 01:30hrs, have a cup of Coffee or tea biscuits will also be served but keep it right to avoid constipation due to slow digestion, then we start the Alpine ascent to the highest peak Pt. Lenana {4985m} m (17,058ft) starts at 02:00hrs, taking 3-4 hours to reach Pt. Lenana 4985m (the hikers summit) in time to watch the sunrise. En route up the North Face little used by tourists, Four hours stiff walking to the summit. This is the most challenging bit of the Mount Kenya Trekking and will require a strong mind and the will as well as the spirit of Adventure to reach to the summit but its not challenging like Hikking Kili at Stella Point. On a clear day you can see the snowcapped summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the South of Mt. Elgon to the west and the Indian Ocean to the East. We normally get to the summit around 0600.0630hrs before the sun rise, take the photos as many as you can and then descend back to Shipton’s camp for breakfast. After the breakfast you will have like 2 hours relaxing as you prepare to descend further to Old Moses camp, dinner and overnight in the Old Moses Camp.

Day 4: Old Moses – Nairobi

This day will be a great day for the trekkers, its an easy day to go by, take your breakfast around 0800am, then start descending to the Park gate. Upon arrival at the gate you will be met by our driver who will transfer you to Nanyuki town for lunch. After lunch proceed to Nairobi arriving late afternoon with a drop off to your residential Places .

What to bring on trekking either Mt.Kenya?

1. Waterproof rucksack with day pack
2. Sleeping bag (covering at least 3 seasons)
3. Roll mats and insulation pads
4. Comfortable hiking boots, light walking trainers thongs (flip – flops)
5. Gaiters (useful when encountering snow),Wooden walking stick / ski pole,Sunglasses or snow – goggles, sun hat, balaclava or woolen hat,Warm scarf, gloves, mittens and thermal underwear
6. Sweaters / jumpers, anorak / raincoat, water and windproof pants, jackets, t-shirt, several pairs of socks
7. Long sleeved shirt with collar, small towel, toiletries and toilet paper
8. Sunscreen and lip salve
9. Flash light (head mounted preferable) and spare batteries
10. Water bottle
11. Camera with spare film and batteries
