Activities Plan

Departure from Nairobi is at 0900 hrs (either from hotel or airport) to Nanyuki. The drive takes about 3 and half hours. There is a 10 minute stopover at the Africana Curio shop for washroom and stretching. Following the break we drive for another one and a half hours with a brief stopover at the Equator for photographs and continue to Nanyuki where we check into Simba Lodge . After a hotel lunch, one can walk and check out the town. Nanyuki town is famous for its position which is at the base of Mt. Kenya, most of the trekkers prefer to spend their first night here so that they can begin their acclimatization and prepare for the trek the following morning. We will likely be able to meet other trekkers who will be going up Mt. Kenya or have just ended their trekking. Some afternoon preparation for the trek/climb will be required by our guides. Dinner and overnight at the Nanyuki Simba Lodge.

Wake up at 0730am, have breakfast, then vehicle shuttle from the hotel to Sirimon gate. Expect 20-30 minutes for park entry formalities and then commence hike to Old Moses Camp (3300m). The trek to Old Moses Camp is through mountain forest, bamboo and rosewood, gaining 700 m elevation in 3-4 hours over 9 km. Old Moses (Judmair Camp) for dinner and overnight.

After the breakfast, we ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley; in this beautiful little valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo are seen, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks. Climb out of the Likii North Valley and into the Mackinders Valley which is one of the broadest valleys on the Mountain, with many giant groundsels with good views of the main peaks. A brief stopover for picnic lunch in Mackinders Valley, then we will have 3 hours to ascend to Shipton Camp just below the main peaks of Batian and Neilon. It normally takes 7-8 hrs to get to the Shipton Camp from Old Moses Camp. On arrival we have a cup of hot coffee or tea while we wait for dinner to be served. Dinner and overnight in Shipton Camp @ 4200m.

Acclimatization day! After breakfast, connect the summit circuit path via Hauseberg Col (4700m) and descend to Hauserberg and Oblong tarns (4400m),then up to Western Terminal (4600m). On this day we will have a picnic lunch since the whole day will be spent acclimatizing. Return back to Shiptons’s Camp for dinner and overnight.

Wake up very early in the morning around 02:30 hrs ready to hike to Point Lenana(4985). On a clear day, we should be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro to the South, Mt. Elgon to the west and the Indian Ocean to the East. After Point Lenana, we descend to Mintos (4250m) for breakfast then proceed to Road head for lunch, then trek for another 7 km to Bandas Hut for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, an early walk will take us to Chogoria for lunch then back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon having ascended Mt. Kenya.
